Unlimited Looks in One Hour with Emily

My first time renting a photo studio.

The joy of having friends come visit me the city is....roping them into being my models. My very good friend, Emily, recently moved to Houston and decided to visit for New Years as not much was happening at the end of 2020 (womp womp). We were going to play around with some locations outdoors and get a variety of shots but then I showed her a photo studio I had been wanting to try out and as soon as I opened their website she looked at me and said....we're going here.

I had never rented a photo studio before (I've rented PLENTY of dance studios for my theater career). But I had no clue what would be supplied, provided, accessible at these studios. When we walked into the space, we both just stared giddily at each other imagining all of the possibilities.

From the gigantic windows, to the plethora of lighting options and the make-up station, we knew we had endless possibilities. We promptly started hanging all of Emily's outfits on the clothing rack provided and laid out all of the jewelry and make-up on the dressing room station. We are both theater performers so we felt like we were back in a dressing room, making it feel homey and our own.

There were also other perks in the studio like 3 different strobes to be used, a sound system to blast some Beyonce, two different pieces of furniture to utilize, a fan for some wind blown moments and wonderfully free Wi-Fi. As well as some awesome equipment like v-flats, c-stands and modifiers.

I couldn't recommend this studio enough. We shot at FD Photo Studios which has 3 locations in NYC and other studios in Chicago and L.A., they're a name I will (and have) returned to again and again. The possibilities are truly endless in these studios. I also need to mention their wonderful customer service and the upkeep of their studios and equipment -- always in excellent condition, clean, and organized.

The studio that we rented was at the N.Y. studio location in Studio 2: Wood Platform. Check out our photos below of the range of looks, moods and shots that we got! We hadn't mapped out too much of what we wanted to shoot, more of just a "let's play for an hour" and we both were very happy with the range captured and end results!
